Advance Passenger Information
Under a directive from the European Union, airlines are obliged to collect Advance Passenger Information (API) from every passenger's passport prior to travel on behalf of the national authorities.
This applies to passengers travelling from Non Schengen* countries such as the UK and even Spanish nationals returning home.
Spain is the first European country to require the collection of API for visitors. However, the policy is expected to be introduced in other member countries over the next 12 months.
Airlines will be responsible for collecting the compulsory information (full name, nationality, date of birth, passport number) either through their websites, travel agents, or at check-in.
The airlines appear to be dealing with the collection of this information. Currently, British Airways, Easyjet and clickair is collecting this information at the time of booking whereas Monarch Scheduled is collecting this information at check-in.
We will get in contact with you if we need this information in advance.
Please note that if you have booked your own flights and do not supply the information as required by your airline you will not be permitted to travel.
If you have any questions or doubt please get in contact with us or your airline.
*Countries involved in the Schengen scheme are Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Iceland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Spain
